Book Direct Dubbo Accommodation

Online travel platforms charge accommodation providers 15-25 per cent commission on every booking they facilitate. This is not a trivial margin hidden in the business background — it is a substantial cost that directly affects either the rate you pay or the quality of the room you sleep in. On a $140 per night room, the platform takes $21-$35 per night for the service of displaying the property in search results. Over a five-night family zoo trip, the platform earns $105-$175. Over a year of bookings, the commission represents tens of thousands of dollars flowing from the property to the platform — money that could otherwise fund room upgrades, better linen, improved air conditioning, or lower rates.

What the Commission Costs You

That 15-25 per cent commission is either built into the rate you pay — inflating the price above what the property would charge for a direct booking — or absorbed by the property at the cost of the maintenance, upgrades, amenity improvements, and service quality that keep rooms comfortable across years of use. In either case, the platform commission makes your stay either more expensive or marginally lower quality than it needs to be. When you book directly, the commission disappears entirely, and the value it represented can be distributed between you (lower rate) and the property (maintained quality and service).

What Direct Booking Gets You

Better rates: properties can offer 10-15 per cent below platform pricing when the commission is eliminated. The saving is immediate and requires nothing more than a phone call or email. Better flexibility: cancellation and modification policies applied by a person making practical decisions about your specific circumstances rather than an algorithm enforcing rigid rules designed for millions of anonymous transactions. A direct conversation about changed plans typically produces a reasonable solution; a platform cancellation policy produces a penalty. Better communication: room preferences (quiet room, ground floor, pool-facing), early check-in requests, late check-out possibilities, kitchenette equipment, cot availability, corporate invoicing requirements, and any specific needs are all discussed directly before arrival rather than discovered upon arrival when the expectation and reality diverge.

How to Book Direct

Call the property or send an email. The phone number and email address are on the property's own website — found by searching the property name rather than searching through a platform. Mention you found them online. Ask for the best direct rate. Compare with the platform price — the direct rate will match or beat it in almost every case. For corporate and government bookings, establish a direct account with agreed rates, consolidated invoicing, and a named contact. For extended stays, negotiate weekly or monthly rates that platforms do not offer. The conversation takes five minutes and consistently produces a better outcome than the platform booking process it replaces.
